The first few verses of Mark 7 describe an argument taking place between Jesus and the Pharisees. The Pharisees criticize Jesus’ disciples for not living according to the traditional ritual of washing hands before eating. Jesus would have none of it; He blasted them for their hypocrisy.
The sharp contrasts between the faith of blind Bartimaeus and the rejecting nation of Israel, and between what He “saw” without eyes that the disciples still failed to “see”, challenges every believer to open his or her eyes to the full majesty of the One worthy of our trust and devotion.
How do we recapture the purpose we were meant to have?
