A Call to Worship: Which Mountain? (Part 5)

A Call to Worship: Which Mountain? (Part 5)

If the Law’s purpose wasn’t to give life, what was its purpose? The Law’s job was to expose our sin and confine us so that we would cry out for a Savior (Gal. 3:19-22). The Law, the sacrifices, and the high priests were always prototypes, shadows, always moving us towards the final sacrifice of Christ. They were able to put sins off, but never paid them off. Mt. Sinai is in the desert in a very desolate place and the end was not Sinai and darkness and gloom. The purpose of Mt. Sinai was to get us to another mountain.

A Call to Worship: We Sing! (Part 4)

A Call to Worship: We Sing! (Part 4)

Our worship and thanksgiving is to God. We are not just worshiping about God, we are worshiping God. We are in the very presence of God; God is hearing and seeing it. We want Him to delight in what is happening here today. We should want to linger in the presence of the Lord, speaking to the Lord about what we think and feel in response to who He is and what He has done.

A Call to Worship: One-Anotherness (Part 3)

A Call to Worship: One-Anotherness (Part 3)

True worship is realizing that this time here on Sunday morning is a culmination of a life of worship where I present myself as a selfless, living sacrifice preoccupied with making Christ the center of my universe and realizing my place in this one another-ness. We belong to one another and Paul says in five verses, “Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another” (Rom 12:5).

A Call to Worship (Part 2)

A Call to Worship (Part 2)

Jesus says the hour is coming and now is. Worship is not about the right location or the right time; it’s about a genuine, humble exchange between God’s truth, the Holy Spirit and your spirit. God’s invitation to you today is to worship His loving and gracious Son in spirit and in truth. What type of genuine, humble exchange between God’s Truth, the Holy Spirit and your spirit is Jesus inviting you into today?

A Call to Worship (Part 1)

A Call to Worship (Part 1)

John is making it clear that it is the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives that takes away our frustration of trying to find satisfaction in this world. It’s the Holy Spirit that turns us into people who overflow with life to love others instead of sucking up other people’s life. When we come to Christ, what do we drink? We drink in His promises of real life and the power of the Spirit. This is the living water Jesus offers the Samaritan woman and this is the living water He offers us today. This is how Jesus turns a worldly, sensual adulteress from Samaria into a fountain of life. This is how he takes us and turns us into fountains of life.
