A Call to Worship: We Sing! (Part 4)

A Call to Worship: We Sing! (Part 4)

Our worship and thanksgiving is to God. We are not just worshiping about God, we are worshiping God. We are in the very presence of God; God is hearing and seeing it. We want Him to delight in what is happening here today. We should want to linger in the presence of the Lord, speaking to the Lord about what we think and feel in response to who He is and what He has done.

A Call to Worship: One-Anotherness (Part 3)

A Call to Worship: One-Anotherness (Part 3)

True worship is realizing that this time here on Sunday morning is a culmination of a life of worship where I present myself as a selfless, living sacrifice preoccupied with making Christ the center of my universe and realizing my place in this one another-ness. We belong to one another and Paul says in five verses, “Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another” (Rom 12:5).

A Call to Worship (Part 2)

A Call to Worship (Part 2)

Jesus says the hour is coming and now is. Worship is not about the right location or the right time; it’s about a genuine, humble exchange between God’s truth, the Holy Spirit and your spirit. God’s invitation to you today is to worship His loving and gracious Son in spirit and in truth. What type of genuine, humble exchange between God’s Truth, the Holy Spirit and your spirit is Jesus inviting you into today?

A Call to Worship (Part 1)

A Call to Worship (Part 1)

John is making it clear that it is the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives that takes away our frustration of trying to find satisfaction in this world. It’s the Holy Spirit that turns us into people who overflow with life to love others instead of sucking up other people’s life. When we come to Christ, what do we drink? We drink in His promises of real life and the power of the Spirit. This is the living water Jesus offers the Samaritan woman and this is the living water He offers us today. This is how Jesus turns a worldly, sensual adulteress from Samaria into a fountain of life. This is how he takes us and turns us into fountains of life.

About God’s Will

About God’s Will

Often times we forget that our lives are a part of a bigger story. We see ourselves as the main characters and forget that there is something much bigger going on. This morning we are going to be looking at three basic principles that we all need to know about God’s will. Hopefully these three truths will comfort you as you continue to pursue God’s heart for your life.

Without This, Missions is Impossible

Without This, Missions is Impossible

First Century Jews viewed history as the story of the God of Israel working through the heroes of the Old Testament to move His plan forward. Now the writer tells them why these heroes were great. It wasn’t their ancestry or their performance. Behind every act that God commends is a heart of faith. It’s a list that would surprise and maybe even embarrass these Jewish Christians. But it’s a list of those who lived great lives from God’s perspective because they believed what He said, even when they couldn’t see it.

God’s Wisdom. Our Mission.

God’s Wisdom. Our Mission.

1 Does not wisdom call out? Does not understanding raise her voice? 2 At the top of the prominent places along the way, at the intersection of the paths she has taken her stand; 3 beside the gates opening into the city, at the entrance of the doorways she cries out: 4 “To you, O people, I call out, and my voice calls to all mankind. 5 You who are naive, discern wisdom! And you fools, understand discernment! Proverbs 8:1-5

God’s Plan for Friendship

God’s Plan for Friendship

I think we give up on people too quickly. I think people give up on us too quickly. Biblical friendships are made of stronger stuff. Christ wants a sustaining commitment to one another. Adversity causes the relational cream in our life to rise to the top. There are people in your life who have become permanent fixtures when adversity comes your way. It’s the familiar voice you hear when you are coming out of anesthesia. It’s the person who drops off a meal when they know you are too exhausted to make one.

Unity: One Selfless Step After Another

Unity: One Selfless Step After Another

In the pressure and demands and hurt of life, we must keep our heads up, surveying the needs around us. And it’s this intentional discipline that unlocks the new heart and new nature in us. It’s this desire to care for the hurts and pains of others that expands our hearts. It’s this intentional decision not to make ourselves the center of our universe that brings peace and contentment.

The Bankruptcy of Self-Sufficiency

The Bankruptcy of Self-Sufficiency

Today we are going to look at a message directed to those who had embraced the sin of self-sufficiency. It was a message that was written to a pastor and his people who were in the midst of one of the most seductive empires in the history of man.
