One incredible step into community is what we call discipleship. It’s groups of two or three or four who gather together to share life around the truth of God’s Word.

We’ve been praying for 50 more first time disciplers this year – folks who have never discipled anyone before. We’ve been praying that they would sense a calling in that particular area, that they’d be willing to take another individual or a small group into the Word of God or through some discipleship material.

Bryce Gallo is one of those first time disciplers! He has a cool story. A couple of weeks ago he was telling me about it.

I’m so thankful he said yes to sharing his experience. I think you’ll be encouraged by what God has done with a couple of people he’s gotten to know.

Hello, church family!

If you guys know me at all, you know that I like chess. I’ve been part of a chess club for about two years now.

Through that I was approached by one of the coaches. He said, “Bryce, I know you talk about religion and I want to know more. I have questions.”

So one day before our chess club, he started asking me questions. Then he asked if I’d be up for meeting together and talking more about his questions.

I said, “Sure.”

So we met up at a Starbucks. We talked for about an hour and a half. He had a whole bunch of questions. He was so curious.

And after that he said, “Hey, could I bring some other chess coaches with me and meet up another time?”

I said, “Sure! Let’s do it.”

From there we started meeting up once a week. It was me and three other guys. We started looking at the book of John. We answered questions and talked about life together and had really good fellowship.

It really wasn’t my intention to start anything like this. It just kind of happened! I definitely see the Holy Spirit at work there.

All I really do is say, “Hey guys, let’s meet up here from this time to this time.”

I make sure to end on time, because I know I don’t like the feeling of being stuck somewhere. I send out texts and tell them what chapters we’re going to read. And then I start the discussion and just let the guys talk.

And God does the rest!
