As I was preparing to share about the opportunity to invite people to church for Easter Sunday, a particular line from a movie came to mind. The movie is based on a true story about a young husband who loses his wife to cancer and is left alone to raise his two young children.
He decides they need to make a big change to move forward and they set out to find a new home. They find the perfect house – a beautiful older home far away from the city. The catch is that whoever buys the house has to buy and maintain the zoo which is on the same property. Though he doesn’t know anything about maintaining a zoo, he goes through with the purchase.
When the zoo curator asks him why he bought it, he gave this memorable answer – why not?
Easter is just around the corner. It’s a great opportunity to be thinking and praying about someone to invite to church … because, why not?
Why not give someone the chance to hear about God’s incredible love and be among His people?
Did you know that 63% of Americans say a personal invitation from a friend or neighbor would be very or somewhat effective in getting them to visit a church?
And this number, while already high, increases greatly around Easter. According to studies, 8 out of 10 people will say “yes” to a personal invite to church around Easter.
Friends, this is a great opportunity!
There are many ways to invite friends to church – here are just three:
1. Hand them an invitation card. You can pick up one (or several!) on the table in the lobby of the Worship Center on Sunday.

Church of the Open Door family, Easter commemorates the most important moment in Christianity … a small gesture such as an invitation to church could put someone on a new trajectory!
So I encourage you to pray about someone to invite, and if you start to feel any hesitation, just remember … why not?
It’s not like you’re buying a zoo. :)
